Kayaking - Red River, TN - All to Ourselves

Red River                                                                      11.5 miles            876.8
Put in at 11:00 at Porters Chapel Road, Take Out - Red River Canoe
Average speed 4.1, Maximum Speed 7.8 mph, 2:50 total traveling time
Temperature 90degrees, just a bit of rain at the end
River Height 7.5 feet

Today it was just Ann and I that paddled the Red River.  There's something empowering about two women paddling on their own - (just ignore the fact that this is an easy river).  The water was flowing really quickly, we didn't know just how quickly until we decided to stop for a lunch break.  At that time, we had paddled 7 miles in 1 hour 45 minutes.  While having lunch, we watched the only 3 other paddlers we passed today.  There were 3 young women who had sighted an abandoned kayak at the edge of the river.  They were trying to pull it out of the water, but every time they got it up, it filled back up again with water.  There must have been a hole and they finally gave up.  When we realized, we only had 4 miles left, we went a little slower.  At one point, I wanted to paddle back to pick up a paddle at the base of a small waterfall, but gave up.  The current was really strong!
