Kayak 2/24 - Itchetucknee River - Stop the Wind!

Itchetucknee River - Stop the Wind!                                                            10.1 miles
Total Time 4:18, Avg Speed 2.8mph, Max Speed 5.6mph,

I stayed with the boats while Scotty and Dick took the truck to the takeout.  This is a very nice park with a stairs and boardwalk down into the headsprings.  I was able to walk around while the attendant there was getting kayaks ready for the day.  The first 4 miles of this paddle is rather secluded and narrow as it goes through the state park.  It's very calm and beautiful.  Soon after we passed the bridge, we encountered a manatee and of course, took pictures.  After the bridge, the river is lined with many homes of all different sizes and styles, and many docks over the river.  We stopped at one park marked private, Hodor Park, but with nobody around decided we'd be okay to sit at the picnic table and have lunch.  We passed two other parks in this neighborhood.  Eventually the river widens and this is when the wind picked up for us.  We were paddling against the wind and it became tiresome, and we were ready for the day to end.  All in all, not the best day (after the last several miles), but any day on the river is a great day!

We camped a second night at O'Leno State Park and ate dinner at Bev's Burgers.

The straight line shows where the trip didn't register.  Fortunately, Dick also logs trip statistics.
