Sunrise on Thacher Island

 Sunrise on Thacher Island

We can see the South Tower from our bed, and as the gulls start squawking at sunrise, we can watch the sky change.  I had observed many beautiful skies and decided today to get up and climb the tower.  Ironically, today was not one of the prettiest sunrises and I'm not sure just how many times I'll be getting out of bed to climb 156 steps again.

Out on the parapet.

First peek.

It's early in the morning (5:55) and as I finish my walk around the island, I see Scotty
come riding up.  The work on the island begins.

Beignets and Chickens at the Lighthouse

Beignets and Chickens at the Lighthouse

We awoke to a very pleasant and sweet surprise.  David made beignets and brought some freshly made treats over to our house.  A great way to start the day!

I got around to hanging my art at the "Official Thacher Island Privy/Art Gallery".  I'm so proud!

We worked on cleaning trails - again, and again, and again.  This is a never-ending task.  We decided to have lunch at the Whistle House.  This is the eastern side of the island and at the base of the Whistle House are lots of rocks that are constantly being washed by the Atlantic Ocean.  The views here have quickly become my favorite view of the island this year.  I worked here on scraping paint off the door jambs.

Every time we return to the house, the 'girls' (aka - the 3 chickens, Spot, Goldie and the other one) come running for treats.  I've never been around chickens for long and I've gotten attached to the girls - and Goldie wanted to do a selfie today, so I obliged!  :)

Isn't she pretty?

The chickens will eat anything....except

hummus!   She's wiping the chicken off on the grass!

We had a hard time getting a selfie where we were both looking at the camera.

Winner!  Winner!  Chicken Dinner!  (oops, I hope she didn't read that)

A young man was hiking around the island.  Anytime somebody is on the northern end of the island, the gulls go crazy - that's THEIR land.  Anyway, it's a good time to get a photo of the Northern Tower with some gulls flying around it.

A sunset walk around the island.  :)

Thacher Island - Island Views

I had the idea of doing a 'relive' video and photographing the spots on the island.  The 'relive' video didn't turn out as nice as I had hoped because the spots are so close together.  In any case, here are the views as I walked around Thacher Island trails.

Thacher Island

It’s 845 at night, and like every other night I am beat. Wednesdays here at the island, work crews come out and do various jobs around the island. It’s a Thacher Island Chateau Current also brings over visitors in today the boats were filled with members of Peg and Dave’s church. Scotty and Dave worked at the bottom of the launch pulling in the boats, and I worked the winch. Although it’s a simple job, I feel like I need to really pay attention because it would be very easy for the rope to get tangled around somebody or even to fly back and hit somebody. Wednesdays are also a popular day around here because I donut shop right out. Apparently this becomes a big discussion topic at The island association meetings, in the workers came from all their workstations and the donuts arrived at the dock. After lunch I decided to walk the trails and take some photos, as if I don’t have enough gorgeous photos on this island. Peg and Dave came over for dinner and this time we fix dinner Dash pulled pork, baked beans, beachy potatoes and cherry dump cake. I’m going to bedTired full and happy.
