Put in at Highway 27, Santa Fe public Boat Ramp to Highway 47, Gilchrist River Park, temps high 50s and 74 when we got off river, dreary day, some sunshine, then light drizzle when we exited, 9.95 miles, 4 hours and 5 minutes
We decided to get on the river a bit earlier today because rain was predicted about 2 o’clock. We unloaded our kayaks about the same time as a kayaking group was unloading. Scotty got in his truck and drove down to the takeout. It’s a small world because when he got down there, he ran into Maria who we have met through paddling buds when she comes up to Tennessee to paddle. She was with a Florida paddling group and they invited Scotty to ride back with them so rather than just the two of us paddling down the river, we paddled with a group of 10 other paddlers. There are several springs on this river, although we didn’t paddle up into all of them. About halfway down is rum Island, and we stopped there for lunch. It was enjoyable, having conversation with new paddlers as we made our way down the river. You truly do meet the best people on the river.
