Thacher Island Arrival

As I sit here working on this blog, I feel physically exhausted. We didn’t get a good sleep as we weren’t able to run the air conditioner since were not hooked up to electricity. We kept the windows open and It was a cooler night, but we were also a little bit worried about the food in the refrigerator. We got up early the next morning and started packing our tubs.  Dave says he gets up early every morning so he drove us over to Granite Pier and we got on Thacher I to go out to Thacher  island. Rain was predicted at this time but it never came instead the skies were dark. It made for a dramatic first showing of the lighthouses with the dark dark clouds and the morning sun just starting to peek through. We loaded up the cart and took our supplies up to the assistant keepers house, our home for the next two weeks. We quickly went back down to the boat house as the boats from now bringing in the docents and visitors. Camille supervised me on the winch to refresh me on its operation. Scotty worked with Dewey down on the ramp bringing the boats in. We brought in six boats of visitors and it’s always interesting to see the people that come out to the island. There was one man that was not the ordinary visitor as he didn’t seem to be enjoying where he was. But overall the visitors love coming out. Then the process is reversed as we put the visitors back on the boats to go back to the mainland. We had a quick lunch and after lunch went back down to the boathouse. Syd had mentioned that he wanted the vines cleaned up on the side of the boat house so Scotty started to work on that. I started cleaning up all the weeds around the buoys. After consulting with Camille, we both decided to take down all the buoys and stack them back up. It was definitely a work out as we picked up buoys, threw them into piles of either keepers or tossers. We only partially started to stack them back up and decided to stop for the day and finish the rest of the task tomorrow. For dinner we had BLTs and chips. Somehow the dinners here taste better as we’re Tired and hungry and surrounded by the fresh air.
