Today we drove over to Pensacola Beach and parked the truck from there. We rode our bikes down to Fort Pickens. It’s a beautiful ride through the white sand and best of all there are no hills. Once again, my America, the beautiful pass came in handy and we didn’t have to pay the $15 bicycle entry fee. Fort Pickens was completed in 1834. It was built to protect Pensacola Bay in the naval yard. It’s interesting to ride through the dunes because there are many batteries facing out to the water. There’s also a fort built on the inside of the original fort which was built in the 1940s for World War II. As we were driving out of the fort, Scotty pointed out a sun dog in the sky. It was fantastic, and we stopped to take some photos. Personally, this was a bigger highlight to me than the fort.
From there we drove into the city of Pensacola, and walked around the downtown for a short period of time. We went into an art gallery with art and photography from local artists. It was probably one of the best local art galleries I’ve ever seen.
On the way home we stopped at Joe Pattie’s seafood. We had been there once before when we came to Pensacola Beach and we’re looking forward to this stop. It didn’t disappoint and the extremely long counter was filled with all kinds of different seafood. We eagerly bought scallops, Shrimp, mahi-mahi, amberjack, grouper, and some gumbo. We came home and cooked the grouper and heated up the gumbo. The fish tasted fantastic, and the gumbo may have been the best I’ve ever had asOf seafood. We had very happy bellies. After dinner, we had a bonfire outside until it got to be even colder.
