Tourist - New York City, Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, Ellis Island, Museum of Modern Art

New York City

Today's my birthday and Scotty agreed to do something that would really appeal to me!  We toured the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.  I loved the rose garden.  It brought back memories of my mom's roses that she had growing on a trellis in front of our house.  They always bloomed for my birthday!

A trip over to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.  The skyline of New York City is spectacular on the ride over.  Seeing the Statue of Liberty gives me chills as it reminds me of what's good about this country.  It also reminds me of math lessons I would do with my 5th graders and gifted students about the numbers and sizes associated with Lady Liberty.  We found our family names on the Ellis Island Wall of Honor.

A Swarvoski display - my camera doesn't capture the true beauty.  We collect Swarovski so this was cool!

Tourist - New York City - St. Patrick's Cathedral

New York City - St. Patrick's Cathedral

It's my birthday weekend and we planned a trip to New York City.  We stayed in an AirBnB on the west side.  It was a great location in a residential neighborhood close to a fantastic pizza place, and near a subway entrance.  The AirBnb, itself was horrible and that's all I'll say.  As a result, we did lots of walking around the city and had an enjoyable few days.

This display in the library was a treat for me, as I collect teddy bears!

We had tickets to the Trevor Noah Show.  Such a cool experience

Kayaking - Clarksville Marina with the Girls

Clarksville Marina                                                            2 miles                    1284.1
Me, Anita, Angie
Put in & take out at the Marina

Angie and Anita are going to try kayaking with me, but they're still not sure about the stability of the boats and are worried about flipping.  As much as I reassured them that they wouldn't tip, I knew the best thing to do was have them try it out.  So early in the morning, we headed down to the marina.  I gave them a few pointers and they were fine.  We paddled around the marina where the water was very still.  We saw a few turtles sunning themselves as it was definitely a hot day.  After getting their 'feet wet', we headed out to the river.  We paddled upstream to the river and then back.  I think they now believe me that the kayaks are stable and we'll soon go down the Red River.

Kayaking 5/28 - Duck River with Ethan

Duck River                                                                         13.9 miles              1282.1 total

Today we met Ethan halfway between his house and our house.  This was Memorial Day weekend and it had been raining all weekend.  We saw that the rain was going to clear on Monday morning so we made a rushed trip to paddle.  An all around nice paddle and even nicer was our lunch afterwards at Puckett's Grocery in Columbia followed up by an ice cream cone at the adjoining ice cream parlor!
