Kayaking - Santa Fe River

Santa Fe River                        10 miles    1244.1 total
82 degrees, blue skies
Put in at Highway 27 boat ramp to highway 47 Boat Ramp
3hr 19 min, Average Speed 3.1mph

We got up in the morning and actually had to turn on the heater inside the tent. We had a quick breakfast, loaded up and were on our way to the Dollar General to buy some fruit. It was a few miles down the road when I remembered my pants were hanging to dry and they were no longer there. We doubled back, but no shorts. Boo-hoo they were some good paddling shorts.

We dropped off Scotty‘s bike and then headed to the put in. This river passes by several homes.  It was less windy, a good current, and overall a nice paddle. We passed several springs, but did not get into the water today. We went up to Lili Spring where naked Ed lives, but another paddler told us that he was in the hospital with cancer.  He’s in his 80s and hopefully he had a good life living along the river. Blue Springs was absolutely packed today with people,  probably the most we have ever seen there. We quickly paddled pass the tubers - that is way too many people on the river for us. We got to the take out Scotty got on the bike, while I walked around.

I know I’ve said it before but it was another perfect day, although the Gilcrest State Park was another story.  It was absolutely packed with people, noisy, and the bathrooms were dirty.  There was a nice, young family next to us, although the one daughter coughed and coughed all night. We had dinner at Highsprings Florida at Alice’s restaurant. We each had fish, both were very good and banana pudding for dessert. Highsprings looks like a really nice little town. Tonight‘s movie in the tent was "Leap Year",  a cute little romantic movie.  Another good night of sleep.

The water is crystal clear here!
