Kayaking - Kentucky Lake

Kentucky Lake                                             6 miles                       681 Total Miles
Average Speed 2.5 mph, 2 hours 26 Minutes Paddling Time

A beautiful sunny Sunday, so a perfect day for kayaking.  We headed to Kentucky Lake as we had never been there.  We put in at Paris Landing State Park and paddled south, then across the river and back up north.  We saw many birds out in the lake.  Also, there are the remnants of an old road that went across this bay still out in the water.  For this blog, I thought I'd put a list of the basic gear we take when kayaking for a day:

Kayaks
Life Vests
Oars
Water Bottle
Snacks
Rope
First Aid Kit
Dry Bag
Dry Clothes (especially in fall/winter/cold weather)
Sponges
Water Shoes
Sunglasses
Sunscreen

Kayaking - Red River with MSUMC

Red River                                                                     8.2 miles                675.2 Total
Left house and it was 65degrees, probably 70 degrees today, cloudy, then sun came out
9 of us - me, Scotty, Vicki, Brian & Michelle Engle, Chris, Cody & Rylin Carlson, Grant Perry
Put in at 9:40, total paddling time 2:28
Average speed 3.3 mph

The weather was overcast, 15% chance of rain so that may have scared off some.  Our list of paddlers dwindled down to 9 of us.   We had 4 canoes and had a nice day.  There were lots of other paddlers on the river today.  The water seemed low and a few of the canoes got stuck on rocks or dragged in places across gravel bottom, but nobody flipped - so all in all, a great day!
