Kayaking 6/9 - New York City!

Hudson River in New York City                                   2 miles                  1286.1

We were visiting New York City and decided to take advantage of a program offered by many of the boathouses on the Hudson River.  There are kayak clubs with the goal of getting people out into nature and to experience kayaking.  Neither of these goals were our goals.  Our goal was simply to kayak in New York City on the Hudson River.  We went to the Downtown Boathouse at Pier 26.  The operation is manned by volunteers and is very well organized.  All of their equipment is on wheels so they simply need to roll out the equipment (check-in desk, PFD rack, lockers, paddle cart and kayaks).  We listened to a short informational talk and then got on the sit-up kayaks.  We had to stay within a roped in area, but it was great paddling in the Hudson River with a view of Manhattan.  The waves were minimal when we started out.  Only at the very end of our paddle did we experience some waves from a passing boat and they actually were fun.  There were maybe about 8 other people out paddling.  It certainly wasn't a hard paddle, but definitely a great experience.

How cool is that background?!
