Chase Crew -Albuquerque International Balloon Festival - Saturday 10/12/19

Albuquerque International Balloon Festival - Saturday 10/12/19

A cold, cold, cold morning!  But, once again we had set our alarms for four and were off to meet the crew.  Today was Joanna's lucky day and she had a beautiful morning ride across the city of Albuquerque.  They were in the air for about an hour and a half and traveled the farthest distance yet this week.  There were too many crew members so I stayed at the field with a young couple, Jean and Keesha.  It was fun seeing all of the activity at the field on the boardwalk and in the booths.  I also observed the Albuquerque box effect.  This is when the balloons rise, go in one direction, then go up again to travel in the opposite direction.  The mountains here cause different air directions and this is one of the reasons that the festival is held here in Albuquerque.
The balloon landed just across the river, west of the city.  They landed across from a high school in a field filled with tumbleweeds.
Saturday night we went to a party at Rob and Jenny's beautiful home.  Rob and Jenny had previously crewed with the group last year.  It was so nice to talk to the crew outside of 'work' time and get to know everybody a little bit better.  Several times, Scotty and I commented about what a nice group of people we had unexpectedly been grouped with, in an unexpected situation.
