Today the balloon traveled northwest and actually went to Rio Rancho. Ella was the passenger for this flight. She was one of the young girls that came with her aunt. Her aunt and I actually had to tell her what a great experience this would be, as she was visibly nervous. And wouldn't you know it, the winds were faster than normal. They went for an hour and a half ride, but the landing was anything but smooth. Koen said it ranked in one of his top 10 worst landings of his approximately 4000 flights. The balloon dragged almost 150 meters on ground. A nearby neighbor had filmed the landing, but Koen encouraged him not to post it until he could preview it. Koen appears to be cautious about the image that he projects to the public about ballooning. Ella told us later that she was instructed to hold onto the corner of the balloon and to fall on Koen and Patrick, except that the reverse happened and the two men fell upon her (but not very hard).
