Hiking - Bernheim Gardens

 Bernheim Gardens                         3.6 miles,     1 1/2 hours

We got to the campsite, Lot #28 atSinging Hills Campground about 1:30. We ate lunch - we were hungry after driving 2 1/2 hours! Ha! We immediately drove up to Bernheim Gardens, an hour away to see the forest creatures. We walked along the trail around the lake. There are 16,000 acres here and 40 miles of trails so we hardly made a dent. But, following the yellow footprints led us to the 3 creatures. Little Nils is the youngest and smallest and a curious fellow. He’s recently discovered his reflection in the lake. Little Elina is the older sibling and loves rocks. She’s building an outline of a feather with her collection. Finally, there’s Mama Lumari. She’s laying down as she has a new baby in her belly. She likes to collect nature treasures and put them in her sacred circle. Many trees along the walk were labeled. My favorite was the fringe tree. There’s a quiet garden, which wasn’t quiet today. There were lots of children running around, joyfully yelling in between their photo shoots. The edible garden with raised gardens was beautiful. The produce is picked and used in their on- site cafe. I’d highly recommend this walk and the creatures will be there for a total of 3 years. Entrance is free, but a $10 donation is suggested per car. On the way home, we pulled into a rest area that had a huge field of poppies. Gorgeous!!
