We set up camp at Mount Carmel RV resort, which is a small private campground right beside the highway. There are less than 15 RV sites and several rooms and a couple of cabins. It’s very nice. We set off to hiking and to belly of the Dragon.
You start off the hike at belly of the Dragon by going into the mountain. The hardest part is at the beginning when you have to get down a large boulder. It’s not a large cave as you can see the sunlight at the other end, but it’s very very cool. I’ll be created by water like the other canyons we went through as there are wavy walls and sand along the bottom. When we got there, it was packed with families, and the children were really enjoying scrambling over the rocks. After you get out of the cave, the desert, but there are rocks and canyons along the way at one point the walk-ins and it’s a steep climb up in line and that is where we turned around. in all we hiked 2 1/4 miles.
Next, we went to sand caves. To start this hike, you have To get up a steep sandstone rock face. I got up about 20 feet. And realized it was just too hard for me. When I say Steve, I mean Steep. Scotty continued and at the top he went into the caves which overlooked the highway. I stayed at the bottom where I was not alone and it was quite interesting. Watching people try to get up the Rocky face. It was not an easy task.
From there, we drove out to Coral pink Sandune State Park. You need to pass to get into the park, but we drove along the highway that led to it. We found a pull off and walked out into the sand. The sand didn’t actually look pink, but rather a light orange color once again, tough walking in the sand, but it was new interesting scene for us. We saw photographer perched on a dune, trying to take desk pictures, and there were several ATVs out among the dunes.
