Rainy Porto

t was a rainy day, so we put on our raincoats and ventured out into the city.

We went down to the market, which was really fun. Not only did we see lots of food. We saw lots of very unusual foods who knew there would be so many different kinds of olives, different kinds of mushrooms, different kinds of sardines. It’s an indoor market, so it kept us dry and warm, and it was a delight to all of our senses -especially the site, and definitely the smells.

After we left there, we wandered up some more of the narrow streets, which are very quaint. And I’m one of the narrow streets we saw a woman come barreling down the Avenue and hit a beer truck that was parked. She got out waving her arms as if it was the other guys fault.

We eventually wandered to the top of the hill that our tour guide had told us about that was known for their Deema sandwiches. This is a sandwich layered between two pieces of bread with ham, cheese, pulled pork, a little bit of sausage chopped with a fried egg, and covered with a layer of gooey cheese and drowned in a somewhat spicy gravy. It’s a true meat lovers dream, so of course, Scotty ordered one I got a bowl of traditional Portuguese soup made with potatoes and kale. I don’t typically like kale, but this kale was chopped into long, thin pieces, and it was delicious, we also had fries and draft beer. We left feeling very full and happy.

We went back to the hotel rested for a bit before we headed out just before sunset to the Lewis bridge as usual there were lots of people around and it was another absolutely gorgeous sunset. This time, though we were at the very top of the hill at the terrace in front of the monastery.
