This morning was a bit unusual for us — we didn’t have to rush out the door. We took our time packing up supplies for our two-week stay on the island, and even had time to simply sit back in our zero gravity chairs, soaking in the quiet. Checkout was at 11:00, and we pulled out at 10:59.
The drive to the border took about 30 minutes and was remarkably uneventful. We were through in about a minute. The only question we were asked? Whether we had any fruits or vegetables. No questions about weapons or guns!
Another 3.5 hours later, we arrived in Methuen, where we parked the trailer in Pierre’s yard. We’re using a service called Neighbor — like Airbnb, but for vehicle and storage rentals. It’s convenient and low-key, and the space worked well.
From there, we drove another 45 minutes to our Airbnb in Danvers — the same one we stayed at last year. We had two requirements for this place: First, it needed to be close to Rockport. Second it had to have a full-sized refrigerator.
We unloaded all of our groceries into that blessed full-size fridge and then headed out to Market Fresh to stock up even more — mostly fresh produce and a few extras. Honestly, we probably bought too much, but trying to plan for two weeks without access to a grocery store is no small task.
We had just started to settle in when we hit a bump — quite literally. Scotty sat down on the bed and it broke. We called the owners, who live in the house and they came over immediately. They were incredibly apologetic and fixed it on the spot. Crisis averted.
Honestly, I would’ve been perfectly happy sleeping on the mattress on the floor — it just felt good to be in a spacious apartment again, with air-conditioning, a real shower, and a place to stretch out. No campground stalls, no cramped trailer space. Tomorrow, our island adventure begins.
