Today’s drive was a long one—about five hours—but thankfully, all the roads were paved. Our only hiccup came when one of the sway bars came loose. It seemed to happen during a stretch of strong wind, when the whole truck was noticeably swaying. Luckily, we spotted it in time and got everything back in order.
We settled into Wayside Campground, which seems to be more of a seasonal spot—many of the campers here look like they’re parked for the summer. It’s easy to see why. The location is absolutely beautiful. As soon as we set up the trailer, we headed out for a bike ride.
Because the campground is on a fairly busy road, our only real option was to cross into a nearby residential area. Even so, we found plenty of spots to stop and admire the water. The views are stunning—it’s hard to imagine waking up to scenery like this every day.
As we rode along, one thing kept catching my attention: the rich, aromatic scent of the pine trees. Ever since we reached Maine, the pines have been especially tall and full, and the smell is just incredible. It makes our bike rides especially enjoyable.
