Camping - Mactaquac Park

Today’s drive was relatively short—at least until we hit the gravel highways. Who knew highways could be gravel? We even had to pause for a road crew and unfortunately, some of the tar sprayed onto our camper.

Crossing the border turned out to be uneventful, though the guard asked us multiple times if we had any guns or weapons. We’re still not sure if that’s standard questioning or if we seemed especially suspicious for not having any. On the bright side, we got to skip a line of about 20 cars by heading into the camper lane.

We made a quick stop at the Hartland Covered Bridge, which is apparently the longest covered bridge in the world at 1,282 feet. Even though it was 92°F, we walked the entire bridge—just to say we did it.

After crossing the border, we lost cell service for a bit. Thankfully, the truck’s navigation still found its way. Our destination was Mactaquac Provincial Park, where we scored a lovely pull-through site. Strangely, the campground had looked full when we booked, yet were very few campers around us. Maybe it was a glitch—or everyone else decided to cancel?

The park is beautiful, especially with the towering pine trees surrounding us. We did a little laundry in the sink, then settled into a simple dinner of cheese and crackers before a few rounds of Quiddler. No TV reception tonight, so we’ll be missing our usual dose of CSI reruns—for better or worse!
