It was nice having an 11:40 a.m. flight out of Nashville—no need for a painfully early start. We left the house at seven, though I wasn’t feeling great that morning. My blood pressure was quite low, and I just hoped it wouldn’t be a sign of things to come.
Our short hop from Nashville to Charlotte was in first class, but honestly, it didn’t make much difference—just slightly roomier seats on a quick flight. The real perk came on the long leg. Using miles, I was able to book us business class for the 8½-hour trip to Frankfurt. That upgrade made all the difference. Being able to lie flat is a luxury, even if neither of us managed much real sleep.
The meals on board were excellent. They started us off with champagne and warm nuts, followed by an appetizer, a fresh green salad, and artichoke in tomato sauce that was delicious. For the main course, we both chose the beef short ribs—very tender and served with asparagus spears and noodles with tiny bits of lobster. Dessert was ice cream with chocolate sauce for me while Scotty went for the cheesecake. We each sipped a glass of Portuguese port with dinner and agreed it was outstanding.

Once in Frankfurt, we picked up our rental car and headed for Baden-Baden, determined to stay awake until evening in hopes of adjusting quickly to the time change.
We got to Steinbach and unfortunately could not check into an Airbnb until 5 o’clock. Our long day just got longer. We walked around the village visited a grocery storeAnd took a little cat nap.
The Airbnb were staying in is owned by two people, one is an artist and the other is a dance or yoga instructor. Our room is part of their large.four story house. It’s Definitely centuries old and is quite interesting. In our room, there’s artwork scattered around by the owner, Matthias. We decided to skip dinner, catch up on the Internet and will be having an early night to bed.
