Hiking - Englistegenfall

We then drove about fifteen minutes to our next hike. The drive itself was a delight, with Swiss chalets scattered across the soft, green slopes like something out of a postcard. I never tire of these views—the mountains always look freshly carpeted in green.

The hike was easy and relaxed. While many visitors chose to ride the cable car up to the mountaintop, we set off on foot to see the lower falls. Not far along, we passed a man and his mother-in-law enjoying lunch at one of the outdoor grills provided along many Swiss trails. The wood is stacked there for free use—such a thoughtful idea! Sadly, I couldn’t help but think how quickly such a setup would be misused back in America, where the grills or wood would likely disappear.

It didn’t take long to reach the falls, where we decided it was the perfect place for our own lunch break. As we ate, we watched a group of children clambering over the rocks and up the mountain. From this spot, the trail continues upward for a rock-climbing challenge, which looked quite intimidating.

The return path led us across the river and through the woods (to Grandmother’s house we go). Altogether, the hike was about two miles—short, scenic, and full of charm.
