One of our very favorite of all things to do when on the island is to go lobstering. It is definitely a lot of work for such a small amount of meat. But, for us, the whole process makes it that much sweeter.

We use the "DeweyMobile" to get the skiff into the water. It was made by another volunteer named - you guess it....Dewey! |
The passengers get into the boat and use the oars to keep the skiff from hitting the rocks.
Scotty gets the motor started.

The trap is pulled into the boat. They can be heavy! They will have 2 to 3 bricks in them depending on the size of the trap and that is to keep the trap at the bottom of the ocean.
|
A lobster can be too big to keep also. This one may be too big, but more importantly, it is a female with eggs. She is thrown back into the ocean so that she will hopefully produce more lobsters.
|
There is a 'ruler' to measure the lobster. This lobster is too small and goes back into the ocean.
